Understanding Cancer

As we speak, cancer is one of the greatest killers of the world. Take all the wars combined that are going right now and the casualties there will only be a fraction compared to the victims of the cancer that paid the ultimate price. In United States alone, over one million people are affected by this disease, according to a study conducted in 2005, with breast cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer being the major culprits. I know that it is simple to think that such a thing will never happen to you, but cancer is an indiscriminate killer and everybody is at risk. The fangs of this disease grow stronger as time passes. The longer the time cancer stays in your body, the more serious the damage. It doesn’t matter where the cancer is located, the faster it is acted upon, the higher the chance that the patient will escape with less harm. Generally speaking the cancer cells are those that stray away and begin duplicating unchecked and they are usually categorized into two families: benign cancers which are nor dangerous but show a disposition for developing more serious forms and malign cancers which are the real killers.

The Dreaded “What If”

Many people refuse to undergo a thorough control because they are afraid that if cancer is indeed discovered they would barely stand a chance and would be burdened by this knowledge. In these cases it’s not the cancer that kills, but ignorance. An early detection of cancer means quite often a complete recovery these days. Cancer does not have to kill. Even in the most ferocious types of cancer there is still a decent survivability rate for those who discovered their condition quickly and acted upon it. Treating the cancer means that someone is fighting, not treating it means that the fight is already lost. Our bodies have an amazing capacity to recover if we help them, so if in doubt visit a doctor, the sooner the better.

Preventing Cancer

To prevent cancer from happening, we must first analyze what causes cancer in the first place. Avoiding carcinogen substances such as tobacco or alcohol might be start. Avoiding unprotected sun exposure is also crucial to avoid skin cancer. Harmful chemicals such as asbestos, some pesticides and smog have also been linked to cancer, so trying to avoid such factors can also prevent cancer. Another risk factor in cancer study has been found to be the genetic heritage. Here there isn’t much possible to do, except regular checks (at least once a year) and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The bottom line is that by reducing the exposure to carcinogen factors, the risk of developing cancer sharply decreases. There are also hints that diet may play a role in cancer prevention, so a balanced and healthy menu can be helpful.

Cancer Archive’s Mission?

This web site is dedicated to anyone who would like to find out more about cancer. Did you know approximately one third of the people you and I know will probably die of some form of cancer? Yes, it is that serious and I sincerely hope we do find a cure for cancer soon.

As previously said cancer is much more easily fought if identified and acted upon as early as possible. This is where cancer archive comes in. I took painstakingly care to cover as much of the relevant symptoms as cancer as possible for each case. If you suspect that you or somebody you know has a form of cancer don’t hesitate to go forward for a check. Keep in mind however that cases vary and that you should never rely on an internet source alone to make a decision. Use the indications and hints we give you here only as a pointer and always try when searching the web to get more opinions. Of course nothing can replace the expertise of a qualified doctor with a first hand look at your situation. What I am offering are only the starting points, some very solid ones indeed but still only that. The advice I give you here comes as an effort to better inform you about the various types of cancers you are interested and should never replace the advice of a qualified professional.

I am doing some research on natural and alternative treatments for cancer and I will add that to this web site soon. I am sick and tired of seeing friends and relatives pass away after long and expensive cancer treatments like radiation therapy and chemotherapy. There has to be a better way to rid our bodies of cancer.

In the meantime I do have some general information about the various cancer types. Stay tuned for more site updates by subscribing to my RSS feed directly or via email updates.

Cesium therapy for cancer is an alternative treatment for cancer whose effects have yet to be confirmed as effective. Cesium is an alkaline mineral, in fact the mineral with the highest alkaline content, whose chemical make up parallels elements such as sodium, potassium, rubidium and lithium. Drs. Keith Brewer, Otto Warburg and H.E. Sartori started to use cesium chloride, also known as cesium salts, as a treatment for cancer when they discovered that cancerous cells are acidic, therefore vulnerable to alkaline. Alkaline minerals, such as cesium, raised the pH of cancer cells at a level where the abnormal cell cannot survive.

Cancer basically happens when toxins devastate the body’s immune system, transforming healthy cells into mutant, cancerous cells. In this case, the cell membrane, which normally allows nutrients and oxygen to pass through it, breaks down and prevents the flow of oxygen. Glucose can still pass through, however, and the overdose of glucose makes the cell anaerobic. Without oxygen, the glucose in the cell ferments into lactic acid, where the affected cells change into highly poisonous substances. A tumor is basically these poisonous cells growing over a clot of dead cells.

Cesium, which we have already said to be the mineral with the highest alkaline content, is then used to stabilize these fermenting cells. While this makes perfect sense, it is still yet to be medically confirmed. In 1984, Drs. Brewer and Sartori successfully treated 30 cancer patients using cesium therapy. Incidentally, a survey was made among cultures who lived on volcanic land, and had high contents of cesium, potassium and other alkaline materials in their diet. These cultures, particularly Arizona’s Hopi Indians, as well as particular groups in Pakistan, Central America, Peru and Ecuador, were found to have very low cancer development rates. Their food is grown in volcanic soil, which is high in cesium, and furthers the theory that cesium’s high pH levels control the growth of cancer.

Even with these cases and evidence, when studies were set out for documentation and confirmation, with several variables among 50 patients, it became more difficult to determine whether cesium chloride did indeed effectively cure cancer. Which is why, to this day, cesium therapy is considered only an alternative cure for cancer and not highly recommended by medical practice.

Doctors who do advocate cesium therapy would recommend a minimum dosage of 3 grams of cesium chloride daily, ideally divided between breakfast and before bedtime. A dosage of 3 grams daily will cost $70 a month. Some doctors will prescribe a larger dose, up to 6.0 grams a day. A supplementary diet administered by the physician is also recommended.

Potassium is said to be staple in the supplementary diet of cesium therapy because cesium chloride drains your body of potassium. Also, there is evidence that cesium chloride stays in the body long after cesium therapy has ceased, therefore supplementary potassium must still be taken for a few months more. Other downsides to cesium therapy is ingesting large amounts of cesium chloride is known to cause nausea and diarrhea.

You may have heard that there is a possibility that extended use of cell phones may cause brain cancer. Chances are, even though you’re aware of this possibility, you would have bought a phone anyway. Interestingly, you’re not alone. Among the three billion wireless mobile users in the world, there must be a significant number who have heard that cell phones can give you cancer. And the number of cell phone users continue to grow.

So do cell phones increase the risk of cancer? When you think of the steadily rising figures of cell phone subscribers, it’s easy to shrug it off as old wives’ tales, such as the ’70s era theory that exposure to electric power lines put children at risk of leukemia. Research has since confirmed that there is no link between the magnetic waves of electric lines and leukemia. But what about cell phones and cancer, is there a link or not?

While it’s true that cell phones do discharge electromagnetic radiation, scientific research has yet to determine how many phone calls you can make before it becomes too dangerous. The current official statement is that, according to extensive studies, cell phone use does not yield any negative health responses, much less actually cause cancer. Still, scientists continue to caution cell phone users not to make too many lengthy calls.

Another issue that has been brought forward is if it is true that there is too little radiation in cell phones to be declared dangerous, how safe can it be with regular use over a long period of time? This concern arises from the fact that phone conversations necessitate the dispersion of low-level microwave radiation into the caller’s brain, as the antenna that catch these signals are held close to the head. As was mentioned, evidence that these emissions of radiation were harmful is inadequate, but would the radiation linger in the cells of your brain or disappear soon after? It’s hard to tell, of course, but if the electromagnetic waves did indeed linger in your brain and build up over time, an increased amount may prove to be quite damaging.

Aside from cancer, other illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, are undergoing tests to see if they are caused or aggravated by cell phone use. Headaches and fatigue have been presumed to be also caused by exposure to radiation, although there is no real evidence for this, still.

Doctors instead encourage us all to be on the safe side. When making phone calls on your mobile phone, try to use a hands-free device instead of constantly pressing the phone against your head. If your phone has an antenna that can be pulled out, please, by all means, pull out that antenna. Keep it directed away from you if you’re able to manage it.

You could also lower the risk of cancer if you would use your phone for calls more in open spaces, outdoors. When you have to take phone calls inside a building, limit the call for only a few minutes, if you have to. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

One of the factors that make cancer a dreaded disease is the fact that it does not remain within one affected area, but spreads to other parts of the body, effectively transforming healthy cells into tumor cells. Cancer is caused by the corruption of DNA cells by carcinogens, such as tobacco and alcohol, and other sources, including viruses and overexposure to radiation. These cells become cancerous as they multiply at an alarming rate. The cancer then spreads as the mutated cells grow and divide at abnormal speeds, attack and encroach on neighboring cells and surrounding tissue, and spread to other organs.

Cancer is difficult to treat when it has spread, with the survival rate decreasing the farther the cancer has traveled. One of the reasons for this is it becomes more difficult to determine which part of the body the cancer had originated. There are several types of cancer, and each type has its own specific treatments. Surgery is best for penile cancer, for example, while other cancers respond better to chemotherapy or radiation.

When a cancer has spread to a different part of the body, it does not become a different kind of cancer. To illustrate, when bone cancer has spread to the lungs, it does not become lung cancer. It is still bone cancer and should be treated as such.

Cancerous cells can be distinguished from healthy cells by its quicker mobility. That they bustle about faster than normal explains their tendency to dispersion. Recent research has discovered that cancerous cells possess a substance that seems to energize the cells into motion, and doctors hope that extensive research will help them control these substances and curb cancer spreading.

The 3 Ways Cancer Spreads to Other Part of the Body

Cancer is spread in three ways: local spread, through blood circulation and through the lymph nodes. Local spread entails the expansion of the cancer within its origin; enveloping the entire organ, such as the kidney or within the pharyngeal area. Also, tumors may enlarge and push its way through yielding sections of its enveloping tissue.

When the cancer moves to another part of the body, it is called metastasis. Dispersion of cancer through the blood happens when cancer cells separates itself from its originating tumor and delve through a blood vessel. The cancerous cell will travel with the circulating blood until it becomes attached to a random area, usually stuck in a capillary. Of course, the mobile cell will “free” itself by penetrating the vessel wall and into the organ it is nearest to. This manner of spreading is not very common because cancer cells may be killed in the process of circulation. If it is not able to attach to anything right away, the cell may die. Additionally, it may encounter white blood cells, which will definitely kill the cell off.

Cancer spread is achieved more effectively through the lymphatic system. The process is similar to the spreading through blood circulation, but this time the cancerous cell attaches to the lymphs that travel through the body. The pathways in the lymphatic system are smaller than blood vessels, and cancerous cells effectively multiply inside the lymph nodes.

When tumors are extracted during surgery, doctors take care to take out surrounding lymph nodes as well, as there might still be cancerous cells within these glands. After all, it takes only one cell.

What is Stomach Cancer?

Stomach cancer, also known as gastric cancer or cancer in the stomach, is a type of malignancy that can develop in any part of the stomach. Stomach cancer most commonly spreads to other areas of the body, including the esophagus and small intestine. Stomach cancer is found in different stages, which are determined by how far the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Stomach cancer starts when abnormal cells grow inside the stomach when new cells are not needed, and then multiply constantly to form tumors and to spread to other locations in the body. A Gastroscopic exam is performed in order to diagnose cancer of the stomach, since it gives physicians the ability to visualize the upper portion of the gastrointestinal tract.

Stomach Cancer Statistics

It is estimated that over 20,000 new cases of stomach cancer will be diagnosed in the United States in 2007, but only about half as many deaths will occur. Like most types of cancer, the prognosis depends highly on the stage of cancer when it is diagnosed. More than 70% of stage-1 stomach cancer patients will live for at least ten years after treatment, and the number decreases with the higher stage of cancer. Stage-four stomach cancer only has about a 5% survival rate, and the majority of diagnosed cases are already in the fourth stage.

Causes of Stomach Cancer

Stomach cancer is associated with high salt intake in the diet, along with a low intake of fruits and vegetables. Smoking has also been linked to increasing the risk of stomach cancer, along with poor health and poor eating habits. An infection called Helicobacter pylori is the main risk factor in the majority of stomach cancer cases, along with gastritis and intestinal metaplasia. A small percentage of stomach cancers are thought to be genetic, but research is still pending regarding this theory.

Symptoms of Stomach Cancer

In its first stages, stomach cancer is typically asymptomatic or only causes nonspecific symptoms. Once symptoms of stomach cancer are noticeable, the cancer has usually spread to other locations in the body. Early symptoms include indigestion, heartburn, and loss of appetite, but many patients do not feel the need to get screened for stomach cancer since these are very common symptoms for other health problems. Late stage symptoms include severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, either diarrhea or constipation, and bloating after eating. Sudden weight loss can also occur, along with weakness, fatigue, and bleeding while vomiting or in the stool.

Treatment Options for Stomach Cancer

Like all types of cancer, the treatment depends on the patient and the extent of the cancer. The most common treatment is surgery, and the surgeon will remove either part or all of the stomach and surrounding tissues. Other organs such as the esophagus or spleen may also need to be removed, depending on how far the disease has spread. Chemotherapy is also used to fight stomach cancer, but is typically used to reduce the size of the tumor when surgery is not an option. Radiation is commonly used after surgery or chemotherapy, since it works to damage any left over abnormal cells to keep them from growing. Radiation therapy is also used to relieve symptoms of stomach cancer when it is considered incurable.

Finding out you or a loved one has cancer can be one of the most devastating moments in anybody’s life, but it doesn’t have to be. Although having cancer is very unfortunate and nobody would like to experience it, it happens in the world and there is nothing that can change that. Luckily, having cancer doesn’t have to be the end of the world. There are a number of different ways to support cancer patients, including mentally, physically, and even monetarily.

Financial Assistance

Cancer can impose a heavy economic burden on cancer patients as well as their families. A portion of medical expenses are usually paid by health insurance plans, but the costs can still be overwhelming for those with and without insurance. There are many different programs available with the purpose of providing financial assistance to cancer patients, many of which are supported by non-profit organizations. One government-funded program called Hill-Burton is available for cancer patients, since it requires hospitals to provide medical care for those who cannot afford it. In return, the hospitals are given funds from the government for modernization and construction of the hospital. Medicaid is another great resource available for those who cannot afford medical care, and can cover costs for many medical expenses related to cancer. Medicaid can supply medical supplies, medical staff, and even affordable health care to those who need it. There are several other organizations that help cancer patients with the care they need, which give cancer patients the support they need during their bump in the road.

Medical Assistance

Caregivers and cancer hospitals are great for supporting cancer patients, especially because many cancer patients prefer to be at home or in a more comfortable atmosphere. Caregivers can be hired to perform their job from a patient’s home, making it a much less stressful situation on the patient as well as his or her family. Caregivers can take care of basic medical care at home, and also help out with chores and errands that the patient may not be able to do. Caregivers are a great support system for patients who do not have someone at home with them, since they can help with almost anything a cancer patient may need.

Support Groups

Support groups are available for cancer patients, and can be a great help for those who need it. Not all individuals with cancer have a great support system at home, and need the help of great friends to get them through a difficult time in their lives. Support groups are great for getting answers to questions relating to cancer, but are also great for meeting people that are in the exact same situation. Support groups can be held in person in major towns, or can be conducted online for those who prefer the Internet. Either way, support groups are great for cancer patients to talk to others who have experienced what they are going through, so they can learn anything they need to and depend on others to help them through their experience. Most cancer support groups are for specific cancers or groups of cancers, which makes it possible for patients to interact with people going through the same struggle as everyone else.

Alternative Treatment Programs

Although the most popular treatments for cancer involve modern western medical treatments, many look to alternative medicine for help with cancer. Alternative medicine can incorporate spiritual, metaphysical, and religious practices in order to promote healing, which is a complete opposite approach to western treatments. There are many different alternative treatment programs for cancer all throughout the world, all of which incorporate the different beliefs in order to promote the healing of cancer. Alternative treatment programs are ideal for cancer patients, since they help to focus on healing rather than worrying and stressing about the disease. Natural supplements and herbs are used in alternative treatment programs, and medications are avoided. Although there is no proof that alternative medicine can cure cancer, there have been many cases where incurable cancers have been cured. For more information on alternative cancer treatments, please visit check out Natural Cancer Treatments That Work.

Conclusion

Having cancer does not have to be the worst thing to happen to anyone, especially since there are so many different resources available for cancer patients. There are many different agencies and companies that are willing to help cancer patients, no matter what kind of support they need. Having a wonderful support system and nothing else to worry about other than great healthy will make having cancer a less stressful experience, and allow one’s body to run its course. Although none of the above mentioned support systems could guarantee to cure cancer, it can make the experience much easier on both the patient as well as the family.

Even though the most common treatments for the various cancers in the world relate to modern western medicine practices, there are many other treatment options that have also been shown to improve the health of cancer patients. One very popular option is massage therapy for cancer patients, and it has shown to improve the condition of patients with various types of cancer. Although there is no scientific proof showing that massage therapy can cure cancer, it has shown to be very beneficial to those suffering from cancer.

What is Massage Therapy for Cancer Patients?

Massage therapy is available for patients with various types of cancer, and some forms of massage therapy focus on the particular area of the body affected by the cancer. Different types of massages can be performed, using a number of different accessories in order to calm and relax the cancer patient. Herbs and other plants known to promote healing are often used, along with calming oils and lotions that cause the body to relax and rejuvenate. Massage therapy can also be used to soothe sore muscles due to injury, and lessen several symptoms associated with several types of cancer.

How Does Massage Therapy for Cancer Patients Work?

Massage therapy for cancer patients works by calming the body down and allowing it to do its job. It was originally believed that massage therapy would cause cancer to spread, since it increases circulation and allows the cancer to flow through the blood stream. No evidence has shown that this is true, and massage therapy is widely used for cancer patients. Massage therapy works to relax and calm muscles and organs inside the body, which promotes healing and allows the body to heal itself. Although there are various drugs and treatment options for cancer, a healthy body and immune system can work to heal the cancer on its on. When used in conjunction with herbs and other supplements that promote healing, the body is able fight off cancer and other diseases in the body. Massage therapy for cancer patients also makes it possible to decrease stress, which can also allow the human body to heal easier.

Pros and Cons of Massage Therapy for Cancer Patients

Although massage therapy can be very beneficial for cancer patients, some medical insurance companies will not cover it. Only certain treatments are covered by major insurance companies, so sometimes patients must pay out of pocket for their massage therapy treatment. Another con is that massage therapy has not been proven to cure cancer, so some patients may end up disappointed if their cancer is not cured after massage therapy treatment. Some benefits of massage therapy for cancer patients include improved overall health due to increased circulation, and patients are also left feeling relaxed and stress free. Massage therapy is great for cancer patients with a lack of energy, because the many herbs and supplements used during massage therapy leave the body feeling rested and ready to take on the world.

Who Needs Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy can be beneficial for patients with almost any type of cancer, since it can promote overall health and also decrease stress. Massage therapy can also work to improve moods, making the entire experience less stressful than it has to be. Massage therapy has shown to decrease the size of tumors, especially in patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Cancers that affect the muscles or tissues can benefit from massage therapy, since it works to soothe sore muscles and relieve muscle tension. Massage therapy is ideal for patients with almost any type of cancer, since it can provide both physical and emotional benefits.

What is a Clinical Trial for Cancer?

If you are dealing with cancer, you may have heard about clinical trials and wondered what exactly they entail. A clinical trial for cancer is basically a type of research study done on cancer patients to test new treatments and drugs that are being developed for cancer treatment. There are treatment, prevention, quality of life and even screening clinical trials that are often used on cancer patients. While there are of course risks that come along with these trials, many times they are a great help to the patient. In some cases, your participation in a clinical trial may actually help others who suffer with cancer as well.

How Does a Clinical Trial for Cancer Work?

Of course, if you are considering being a part of a clinical trial for cancer, you are going to want to know and understand how it all works. Usually, the actual ideas for a clinical trail will start out in a laboratory; however, things must be actually tested on humans to determine if they really work. The trials are used to figure out if the treatments or procedures are safe and if they are effective as well. When it comes to clinical trials for cancer, there are three basic stages. In the first stage, doctors try to determine if the new treatment is safe. The second stage is used to figure out whether or not the treatment actually works and the third stage investigates whether the new treatment is better than what is currently available for cancer treatment.

Pros and Cons of Clinical Trials

Like most things in life, a clinical trial for cancer comes with both some pros and cons. There are many pros to participating in a clinical trial, which include the following:

You can help others with cancer

You get access to treatment that you would never access otherwise

The number of treatment options is increased

You receive careful monitoring and help from a great health team

Medical care related to the clinical trial will be paid for

Of course, while there are many great pros to cancer clinical trials, there are also a few cons to consider as well. Here are a few of the cons you need to be aware of:

There may be unknown side effects

The treatment may not work for you

It can be inconvenient

Your insurance may not cover costs

The choice of treatment may not be yours once you sign up for a trial

How to Take Part in a Cancer Clinical Trial

If you want to take part in a clinical trial for cancer, there are a variety of ways that you may be able to get involved in one. First of all, you may want to speak with your doctor. Your doctor may be able to direct you towards some good clinical trials that may interest and benefit you. You may also be able to take a look online to find clinical trials and if you find one that interests you, check out the requirements and see if you are eligible for the trial. If so, then get in contact with the organization offering the trial.

Who Should Try Clinical Trials For Cancer?

You may be wondering if a clinical trial for cancer is for you. If you have cancer and you feel you are running out of good treatment options, then you may want to give a clinical trial a try. While some people who are assured of recovery from cancer may not want to risk a trial, for those who have nothing to lose, this may be a great way to try a new type of treatment and pave the way for others who are dealing with cancer as well. Of course the decision will have to be yours, so make sure that you do your own research before going with a clinical trial.
