Prostate Cancer
The prostate is a very important gland in the male reproductive system. It is located right next to the bladder, very near to the rectum as well. Its main purpose is to produce about a third of the material that makes up semen. The prostate’s contribution helps to stabilize the semen and create better living conditions for sperm. The prostate is susceptible to another disease known as prostatitis which may trick someone into thinking they have prostate cancer. However, it is a minor malady that can be cured quickly using antibiotics.
The prostate is more prone to cancer than any other organ. Cancer officially occurs when a tumor becomes malignant and begins to grow new cells uncontrollably. Unfortunately, when the cancer is early in development there are little to no symptoms that would tip the victim off. Later, most of the problems involve urination since the prostate surrounds the upper urethra. This includes painful urination, blood in the urine, frequent urination, or increased urination at night. This could be several other things, but in older men when prostate cancer is most common, it is best to check.
Getting Checked For Prostate Cancer
Prostate checks can be given quickly and fairly painlessly (although they may be a little bit embarrassing). The doctor accesses the rectum through the anus, and is able to feel the prostate through the wall of the rectum. He can then check for abnormalities. If you are in the group of people who are most likely to get prostate cancer, you should definitely have this check performed frequently. If you are able to catch the cancer in the early stages of its development, you will have a huge edge when it comes to treating it. You may feel awkward the first time you go in for a prostate check, but once you get to know the staff you will feel very safe and comfortable doing it (and it might save your life, which is always an incentive).
Treatment Of Prostate Cancer
Out of all of the types of cancer, prostate has the highest rate of recovery. So despite the high risk that elderly men have, they still have a good chance of pulling through. There are many different treatments for prostate cancer that can be mixed and matched by surgeons to suit each specific patient. With new technologies and techniques being developed all the time, prostate cancer is almost becoming something that is rarely fatal. Prevention Of Prostate Cancer
Dr. Graham Giles of the Cancer Council Victoria in Melbourne conducted a research and discovered that the chances of getting prostate cancer can be lowered if a man ejaculates often either by masturbation or sexual intercourse. This is done to prevent carcinogen build up in the prostate gland that causes prostate cancer. A healthy diet with fruit, vegetables, beans, and very little or no red meat also helps to reduce your risk.
